Razer’s gaming Ultrabook gets an Intel Kaby Lake bump and a bigger battery Read more Technology News Here –> digitaltechnology… Although high-powered Intel 7th generation aren’t due until next year that isn’t stopping Razer for updating its gaming Ultrabook the Blade Stealth. Now equipped with a new 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor the new Razer Blade Stealth should be an even more capable machine for everyday life and gaming. Power aside the gaming Ultrabook has also been upgraded with double the memory bumping it up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB PCIe SSD. Battery life has also seen an improvement thanks to a larger 53.6 watt-hour battery 15% percent larger than the 2015 model’s 45WHr cells which should afford users with nine hours of usage. Last but not least Razer is now offering the Blade Stealth in a new gunmetal color that also replaces the glowing logo on the back of the screen with a “tone-on-tone.” The new color and unlit logo may appeal to those who want all the power of this machine with stealthier aesthetic for work. The Razer Blade Stealth starts $999 (about 760 AU$1325) with a QHD (2560 x 1440 display) 7th gen Intel Core i7-7500U processor with Intel HD Graphics 620 128GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile models in gunmetal gray start at $1399 (about 1060 AU$1860) with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. New models begin shipping today and the gaming Ultrabook will also be available at retail stores like Amazon and the Microsoft Store later this month. Playing with more firepower Razer is also updating its bigger Razer Blade gaming laptop with Nvidia’s latest Pascal graphics. The 14-inch notebook is now armed with the new Nvidia GTX 1060. At first this might sound like step down from the Nvidia GTX 970 from last generation but the new graphics chip is actually three times faster while delivering 40% more performance. The new Razer Blade will stick with 6th generation Intel Core i7 processors until gaming-grade Kaby Lake processor are out. However you still get a boatload of power plus this rig is upgradable to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an 1TB SDD. Razer is also bringing back the 1080p screen for gamers who want faster frame rates and a matte screen with minimal glare. The Razer Blade is available for pre-order starting at $1799 (about 1370 AU$2390) and units begin shipping later this October. One of those is a SIM slot but unlike our American cousins Brits wont be able to tie their current number to the second SIM inside the wearable. The LG Watch Sport goes on sale in the US first and AT&T and Verizon will offer customers the option to tie their current mobile SIM card to a second SIM which goes in the wearable meaning you can continue using your mobile number and the second SIM will piggyback on it. That means if someone calls your regular mobile number your watch will ring – even if you’re away from your phone. Sadly when the LG Watch Sport does arrive in the UK it looks like EE O2 Vodafone and Three wont be offering a similar service. There’s a SIM card in there somewhere The networks haven’t confirmed whether they’ll be offering the watch yet – but we can expect more smartwatches this year to offer similar connectivity as the Watch Sport so the likelihood is it’s a service people will be asking for. The Watch Sport doesn’t come with a SIM in the box and doesn’t require one to function but if you want to use it independently from your smartphone for calls and texts you’ll need to invest in a second SIM plan. TechRadar contacted all four networks to find out just what the deal is when it comes to sharing your number between your phone and a second SIM in a wearable also known as twinning. Three TechRadar spoke to Brendan Arndt Three UKs Lead Product Manager and asked if the network currently offers twinning. Its not a service weve seen to date in the UK market. Its something weve looked at in the past with various connected wearables but there are not enough devices at the moment to offer the service. Three would have to do a few things behind the scenes to be able to offer the service its not just a case of flicking a switch and the current low demand means its not viable as a business proposition at the moment. All is not lost though as Arndt predicts that in the next two years its something which will have greater demand. It [sharing a mobile number between SIMs] is an interesting topic as were seeing wearables become more connected and implementations could be anything from VR headsets and smartwatches to Alexa boxes in the future. They lend themselves to this type of service and consumers dont want two three or four numbers they want their number and identity to follow them. In the next 12-18 months we can see the demand being there. Vodafone Vodafone was more direct with its response with a spokesperson telling us Vodafone UK doesnt currently support the ability for a number to be shared between two SIMs. The key word here is currently which hopefully means its looking at the technology but perhaps is waiting for demand to grow like Three. However the spokesperson continued “we are constantly reviewing our device portfolio but there are no current plans to range the LG Watch Sport – so those looking to pick it up from Big Red are plum out of luck. O2 O2 declined to comment on the idea of sharing your mobile number between SIMs but the firm has offered different approaches in the past. Its TuGO app allows you to make/receive calls and send/receive text messages over Wi-Fi while last year it offered the Samsung Gear S2 3G which had an e-SIM (rather than a standard SIM like the LG Watch Sport) which could be programmed to use your mobile number. With the Watch Sport not having an e-SIM this option isnt available to UK-based owners of the wearable. Not that any of this matters as O2 has confirmed to TechRadar it won’t be stocking the LG Watch Sport. EE We have contacted EE and are waiting to hear back from the network. Starting today Netflix users on Android devices can choose to download their shows for offline viewing on an SD card – allowing them to take as much programming with them as their expandable storage allows. Saving shows is the same as before but now an added “Download Location” setting allows your content to save to your removable card rather than the device’s internal storage. Though welcome be Netflix’s latest trick it’s not the sole name in the biz offering offline viewing. Amazon Prime Instant Video has been storing TV and movies locally for a while now and Hulu is not far behind considering taking the offline plunge for itself later this year. Android users can access SD storage on the newest version of the Netflix app via the Google Play store starting today. The iOS version sadly only advertises bug fixes in today’s update because well iPhones and iPads don’t exactly have SD slots. It’s just added a new candle bulb fitting to its range of connected color-changing Philips Hue light bulbs. A 40W equivalent E14 -470 lumen at 4000 kelvin – bulb the candle fittings are available in both Hue’s white ambiance and color ambiance options letting you get a broad white color shade spectrum or the 16 million colors offered up by the full range color type. With the addition of the candle bulb Hue is now compatible with 80% of the lighting fixtures around the globe. Color control It’s also increasingly easy to control the Hue bulbs. 600 apps are now available to do everything from sync the bulbs with TVs and games consoles to activating color-flashing party modes. The bulbs now also support Amazon’s Alexa voice commands letting you bark at an Echo or Echo Dot to switch them on or off. There are also a range of sleep-programming features built into the bulbs too. Mimicking what wake-up lamps offer the bulbs can be programmed to slowly dim at bedtime and to replicate the sunrise in the morning to help give you a more restful night’s sleep. The Philips Hue candle bulbs will hit Europe by the end of April and North America “later this year.” They’re priced from 29.99 which roughly converts to $37 / AU$49. Ford is delivering Alexa support to its vehicles calling the mash-up the most comprehensive integration of the assistant in any car yet. Alexa is actually arriving in two parts. First Ford will let plug-in electric car owners control their vehicle from home using an Amazon Echo Echo Dot or Amazon Tap. While you’re snug on the couch you can start or stop the engine lock or unlock doors check range charge status and fuel level and get a mileage summary. This functionality will arrive later in the month. Then in the summer Alexa will be accessible inside cars equipped with Ford’s SYNC 3 system with the tap of a button on the steering wheel. Once you’ve called up Alexa you can have it report on the weather play music or audio books check news and add items to a shopping list as well as control smart home devices from the car. Perhaps most useful of all Alexa will have navigation capabilities helping you locate a destinations like a nearby restaurant if you ask. Ford says it’s the first to offer this kind of integration with Alexa in a vehicle. Of course we’ve already seen Siri and Google Assistant make it into cars but Amazon is now putting its foot in the auto assistant race as well. We’ll have to wait to find out whether Alexa in cars takes off particularly if it expands to other vehicle manufacturers. But this has become a three-assistant race which is always exciting to see. Twitter’s desire to stream live sports was revealed all the way back in April with this month’s kickoff of the NFL Regular Season being the first real test for the social media platform as a sports venue.
